Is knowing basic programming languages a skill that we will ever need to know again?

McBurger I'm pretty fluent in html and css and loved designing websites the old fashioned way, but I'm unsure if anyone will write them by hand ever again.

Winter_Swan5104 News photography. Now everyone is a photographer and the skill is not valued. An editor doesn't care about visual storytelling a quick snap from a young reporter being told to do it all is good enough for them.

redyellowblue5031 I got extremely good at fixing iPhone 6/6+ touch disease. It required microsoldering under a microscope to remove a chip, fix a broken pad and then resolder the chip back on. Virtually 0 parts cost (just the wire and solder) and it was super profitable.

menicknick I can fold a piece of paper in perfect thirds. Turns out, nobody gets business by having flyers delivered to their doorstep anymore. Edit: there's at least 5 of us!

Human_Damage7428 I'm really good at reading bad handwriting. Part of the reason is I'm 68 years old. I had experience reading Spenserian from my grandparents' generation, Palmer from my parents and their age group and D'Nealian from people my kids' age. There are fewer and fewer handwritten documents being produced and many of the people who handwrote everything have passed on.

flamewave000 Now days I feel like it's Programming. I'm a Senior dev with over a decade and I've been coding since highschool. I absolutely love the craft, but now Al is replacing the best part of the job and employers are demanding we use it. Prompting a robot to write stuff for you means all you're doing is essentially writing nothing but documentation that the Al follows, and doing code reviews (the most unsatisfying

part of the job) which just plain S ks. Ive been seeing a lot of seniors online talking about how they just feel depr_sed, unsatisfied, and unfulfilled by the job. Meanwhile we have all these people who couldn't code for sh before having Al produce code as good as a young intermediate, and making them think they're as

good as a senior. We get Al slop code but the managers don't care because velocity numbers are through the roof, in spite of the bug rates also rising like crazy. I want the Al bubble to burst, but think that's just wishful thinking at this point.

BigPickleKAM I am disgustingly good at timing and balancing mechanical diesel fuel pumps and injection systems. There is still demand for my skills but as everything is moving towards common rail and electronic timing and metering my skills are less and less in demand. That's only one small part of what I do so it's not impacting my career. But there are days I miss the mechanical stuff over the modern stuff.
